Our mission
MEJORAGUA's mission is to enhance the management capabilities of drinking water system operators in pursuit of efficient, safe, and sustainable supply for the communities they serve. MEJORAGUA strengthens the capacities of Water and Sanitation Operators and promotes partnerships among them to manage solutions to their needs.

About
The MEJORAGUA program aims to strengthen the capacities of 80 Drinking Water and Sanitation Operators in the prioritized urban centers in USAID El Salvador's Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) during the fiscal period 2020-2025, through the following actions:
- Creation of three professionalization centers that will benefit 300 leaders, directors, and operational staff from 60 drinking water and sanitation Operators.
- Promote, create, and support three associative groups, each composed of 15 Drinking Water and Sanitation Operators.
- Implement pilot projects in 4 Drinking Water and Sanitation Operators, which will serve 1,600 users, to promote the professionalization of these water Operators in providing quality and sustainable drinking water services.
- Involve women and youth in program activities to reduce existing intergenerational and gender gaps in the management and operation of Drinking Water and Sanitation Operators.
SUPPORT ACTIONS OF THE PROJECT
- Situational diagnosis.
- Work plan.
- Address shared problems.
- Technical assistance to address common problems in the associative group.
- Leveraging resources to carry out prioritized activities in the work plan.
- Help OSAS (Water and Sanitation Operators) meet the registration requirements of the Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA).
- Training for system sustainability
Community Water Operators in El Salvador face many limitations in providing adequate drinking water and sanitation services to the population. These limitations include a lack of technical knowledge to solve problems, lack of resources for major repairs, rehabilitation and expansion of water networks to meet the demand for these services, among others. MEJORAGUA seeks to reduce this gap.

MEJORAGUA initiative strengthens the capacities of community Water and Sanitation system operators through training, technical assistance, and establishing partnerships to improve access to and quality of drinking water service in prioritized areas of El Salvador, with the support of the people and government of the United States, through USAID and Azure.
